About Bess Salomon
Bio
I was born on Long Island, New York and lived there for much of my life.My parents were second generation Italians, and my grandparents all came from Sicily around the turn of the twentieth century when they were young. They met and married after they immigrated to New York and became active in the designer clothing industry as well as the restaurant business.
Like other Italian families, we all lived in the same neighborhood and frequently several generations shared the same house. I attend public and Catholic schools, including St. John's University in Queens, New York where I graduated. I was the first in my entire family to earn a degree. My younger brother also graduated from college and we both became professionals in New York.
I was an English teacher for a few years, but quit to join corporate America as a sales account rep and ultimately as a technical recruiter.
Dallas became my new home in the 1980s and about that time I began to study painting. I was drawn to watercolor and was immediately taken into the active art scene that I found. Before long I had made many new friends through my art activities.
I have studied watercolor with Leo Smith, Naomi Brotherton, Irving Shapiro, and Lou Ann Bower, and am a member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society and Richardson Civic Art Society.
